> Yes, what is the Earth Weaving project ?
_ The shape of the stitch penetrates the Earth, comes out somewhere else. With a bit of imagination the globality of the sculptures are formally related to this same pattern, constitute one planetary sculpture. Through my sculpture I wish to create a bond between people, a bond of peace, friendship, fraternity that can unify nations. This is my message.
> Liberty, Equality, Fraternity... You really like France !
_ Yes, it’s for these ideals that I remain here (laughs).
More than thirty years ago, I travelled to Europe and I landed in France. It could have been somewhere else, but it was France that welcomed me, I felt comfortable here. I started working here and I wanted to go all the way creating a life here. But I do not feel tied down to France, I feel free to create wherever I want to. My artistic language can be understood everywhere.

> そう「地球を縫う」?
_ 編み目の形は地球に入って行きます。そして他の場所に出て来て、他の場所との関係を作ります。ちょっと想像力を働かせると、この形の規則に属する彫刻の全体が一つの同じ宇宙的な彫刻を構成している事が解るはずです。私の彫刻を通して、様々な民族が平和に集まり、友情を話し合い、民族を集結出来る博愛について語り合って欲しい。それが私のメッセージです。
> 自由、平等、博愛… あなたは本当にフランスが好きなんですね !
_ そう、わたしはこれらの理想の為に、ここにいます(笑い)
30年以上前に、私はヨーロッパ旅行をしました。そしてフランスに留まりました。それが他の地でもあり得た訳ですが、私はここが一番快適であると感じ、そしてフランスは私を受け入れてくれました。ここで働き始め、最終目標までたどりつきたいと思いました。でも、私はフランスだけにしがみついている訳ではありません、私は何処にいても自由だと感じます。 芸術的表現は、至る所で理解されます。

> Oui, le Tricot de la Terre ?
La forme de maille, rentre dans la terre, sort autre part, créé des liaisons, les boucles cousent la terre. Avec un peu d’imagination, l’ensemble des sculptures qui se rattachent à ce code de formes constitue une seule et même sculpture planétaire. À travers ma sculpture, j’espère rassembler les peuples dans la paix, parler de l’amitié, de la fraternité qui peut unir les peuples. C’est mon message.

Tu aimes beaucoup la France !
_ Oui, c’est pour ces idéaux que je reste ici (rires).
Il y a plus de trente ans, j’ai fait un voyage en Europe. Je me suis arrêté en France. Ca aurait pu être un autre endroit mais c’est la France qui m’a accueilli, là où je me suis senti le mieux. J’ai commencé à y travailler et j’ai voulu aller jusqu’au bout. Mais je ne me sens pas attaché à la France, je me sens libre de créer où je veux. Mon langage artistique peut être compris partout.

> Before you started work on the dam, you did a series of sculptures through subcontracting.
_ It was a way to meet my future partners, GEM granite in Madras, India. I wanted to try and I was obliged to subcontract. I had some pleasant surprises and the work was unquestionably of a great quality. From the point of view of sensibility, however I was not entirely satisfied. I would have needed to follow the making of the sculptures day after day. I prefer to work in my studio, being able to control the process, being very close to the sculpture. But you need to respect the deadlines, and when time is of the essence, there is no other choice.

> ダムの仕事の前に、幾つかの下請での作品制作をしたようですね。
_ それは、私の将来のパートナー、インド、マドラスのGEMグラニットを理解する一つの方法でした。私も試してみたかったし、下請けに出さざるを得なかった。私は非常に驚きました。仕事は明らかに巧い出来でした。しかし、感受性に関して、私は100%の満足を出来ないでいました。私は、毎日毎日彫刻の進み具合を見る必要がありました。理想的には、自分のアトリエでプロセスを制御しながら近くで制作する事が好きです。しかし納品期限を尊重しなければなりませんし、時には時間が足りません。

> Avant de te lancer dans la réalisation du barrage tu as réalisé une série de sculptures en sous-traitance.
_ C’était une manière de faire connaissance avec mes futurs partenaires, GEM granite, à Madras en Inde. J’avais envie et j’étais obligé de pratiquer la sous-traitance: j’ai eu de très bonnes surprises et le travail est incontestablement de qualité, mais concernant la sensibilité, je n’étais pas satisfait à 100 %. J’aurai eu besoin de suivre au jour le jour. Idéalement, je préfère travailler dans mon atelier, contrôler, être au plus proche de ma sculpture, mais il faut respecter les délais, parfois il me manque du temps.
